Dr. Hrishikesh Kulkarni (Principal Investigator) received a Discovery Award (Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program) from the Department of Defense for the period of 7/1/20 – 6/30/22. Along with Dr. Andrew Gelman (Cardiothoracic Surgery), they will study how activators of the complement cascade (such as pentraxin 3) increase the risk of acute lung injury (primary graft dysfunction) after lung transplantation with the aim of devising therapies to block its effect.
